St Barbara's Children's
Ministry
Background
After
many years we have had some significant changes to our ministry to children
and young people. Children aged 3-11 will leave for their "We Learn" group after
the first hymn of the Sunday service. The Duty Warden will then bring the
children back into the church during 'The Peace' when they will share what they
have learned. There is a rota of 2/3 adults going out with the children. The
adults have a CRB clearance which is covered within the Diocesan Guidelines for
Child Protection. Parents with younger age children can take their child into
the group but must be responsible for them.
Younger people, 12 onwards will be encouraged to
take part in the service, Bible reading, leading the intercessions, carrying the
candles or in the choir etc. They will be encouraged to attend the monthly
"BBC" (St Barbara's Bible Club) 11+ group and also evening worship. Please ask
the Vicar for further information on these exciting changes.
Also
the children help lead Christmas
services, the Mothering Sunday service, Harvest and a summer service where they
contribute to all aspects of the service.
Music

Music is important
to our worship and we have some very talented musicians who now lead a band.
Not a typical band of drums and guitar but a band of children coming with the
instrument they play, this could be flute, violin, saxophone, guitar, piano,
drums and percussion depending on who is available. Under the guiding
eye
of Norman and Katherine the
children now accompany singing in the main services. See separate
music link for further details.
Other Activities
There are also social events such as Christmas
parties, picnics, outings and this year a bar-b-que. The leaders and children
also help to run stalls at the Christmas and May fetes. At Christmas the leaders and older children also
help run a Christmas workshop, which is open to the
whole community. If you want to know more about
Children's Ministry come along on Sunday at 10.00am
or alternatively speak to The Vicar who can put you in touch with appropriate Children's Ministry contact.
